6 Week appointment

Christopher and I went to his pediatrician appointment today for his 6 week visit. It was just about half a mile away, so we just walked. I had to take him a couple of weeks ago for a goopy eye (turns out it wasn't anything but a blocked tear duct) and he screamed the whole way back in the cab, so I decided we would try the walking. He did great at the visit. He had to get one shot, but he was a champ. Conan and I made bets on his weight before the visit. I went with 9 # 14 oz. and Conan thought 10# 2 oz. Boy were we wrong. He weighed 11# 11 oz. That's big- he jumped from the 50% to 75% in 4 weeks. I guess all of those constant feedings in the middle of the night have paid off. He's starting to smile more- not at us yet, but just randomly- especially right about time to eat. He tracked Conan walking across the room last Friday and he's really holding his head up a lot better.

So it's been a couple of weeks since we got our things. We just have a few boxes left. Three of them are the boxes of strangers that they accidentally delivered to our place. They haven't been able to find the owners of the boxes yet, so we're stuck with them. Other than that, the move when really smoothly. They broke our crock pot, but that was it. I've never been so grateful for a bed after sleeping on the ground for a week.

We're starting to get settled into NY. Christopher and I have been exploring around  our neighborhood. We've gone to the grocery stores, the drug stores, and of course the Duncan Donuts for coffee. The three of us went to church on Sunday. We went to the 9:00 service and there were only 6 of us in the whole service. We got to talk with the Pastor quite a bit- it was nice. On Saturday we took the Subway to Midtown so I could see where Conan's office is. We learned that the Subway is a disaster with a huge stroller. We had to haul it up and down stairs and it wouldn't fit in turnstile, so we had to take it through the emergency exit (yes, sirens went off and everyone stared at us). Once we made it there we had a great time. We got off at Grand Central Station and then we walked around the city and saw tons of the tourist spots... Rockefeller Center, Broadway, Times Square, Central Park. I don't think I've ever seen so many people squished on one street. It was pretty overwhelming with a baby, but I'm so glad I got to see it all. I can't wait to go explore with the little guy once he gets older.

Baby Christopher is 1 Month Old!

I can't believe it's been a whole month since Christopher was born, but I also can't believe we've only known him a month. It seems like he's been a part of our family forever now. Here's a little bit about him...

He's got his Dad's adorable lips and ears. When he came out he looked just like Conan, we had no choice but to name him Jr. He's got my eyes for now (his are much prettier). We think he has my Dad's chin, and the nose is up for debate. He had Conan's hair color at first, but when he's in the sun it looks pretty red to me. He has the longest little baby toes and fingers I've ever seen.

He's such a boy. He does the loudest burps, toots, and grunts. If you weren't looking at him you'd think it's a grown man (but way cuter). He's really strong. He's been holding his head up since day 3. The first night we had him home he nosedived off of the Boppy pillow. He's even rolled over a couple of times. Only when he gets really mad that we've put him on his belly for tummy time. He kicks his legs really hard when he gets upset or overstimulated- he's gotten me in the stomach a couple of times- it hurts. He loves to nuggle up beside you, especially right after he's eaten. We call them his milk comas. He eats so much and all of his extremeties go limp. He eats a lot, pretty much all day long. We're not sure where it all goes.

He loves lights. Whenever he gets upset we just bring him close to one and he stares and stares. I think he'd rather look at a lamp than mom or dad. His favorite songs are "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and "The Eyes of Texas"- both sung by dad. He loves to go outside. He stops screaming the second we walk out of our apartment (and then usually starts up again as soon as we walk back inside).

We just can't believe how lucky we are to have this little angel. We can't wait to learn more about him. Happy 1 month Christopher!

First Week in NYC

We're here! The much anticipated move happend last Tuesday. The movers packed everything up on Monday and we arrived to NY the next day. Our things, unfortunately have not. We are living on an air mattress and in 3 plastic chairs- which we found at the "super store" down the street and were very greatful for. It has been quite an adjustment- not only the new city, but also life with a 4 week old.

Christopher has been great through all of this. He was an angel on the plane and is doing quite well with his pallet of blankets we've made for him until we get his bed here. The move has definately altered his sleep schedule. We went from almost making it 6 hours without waking up to waking up every 2 hours on the dot. Last night when he woke up at 4am I fed him, changed him, rocked him, walked him and nothing, wide awake- big, beautiful blue eyes started at me, wide awake. It's been that way for the past few nights, so I'm afraid it's his new schedule.

I've found that New Yorkers love a tiny baby (who doesn't). The first night we were here Sarah and I left Christopher with Conan so we could find an air pump for our air mattress (the one we had shipped here only worked with a car cigarette lighter- we figured we shouldn't hail a cab to blow up our bed). People were so rude, I wanted to hop back on the plane back to TX that night. But now, when I walk around with the baby everybody stops to talk and couldn't be nicer. I actually had a lady tell me yesterday not to trip while I'm holding him. Too funny.
