What we've been up to

We've had a great month. We were so lucky to have my mom and Conan's parents in town for Christopher's birthday party.

Conan's birthday was the same as his first father's day. It was so nice that he got to spend it with his dad too. Three generations of Crums!

For my birthday my mom took me to Friend of a Farmer for brunch. It was great. Here's the LG in action there, giving me a hug. Love him!

Opening presents. My mom babysat and Conan took me shopping at Saks that evening. Very New York : ).

Anne came to see us between her trip to Jamaica and going back to her residency. Christopher had a blast with her.

We went to an art class with some of Christopher's friends. He was a little afraid of the play-doh, but warmed up to the painting. They promised that the paint was safe for the kids. I hope so, because Christopher's favorite thing to paint was his face.

We met up with our TX friends, Michelle, Rob, and Max at Dinosaur's Barbecue. Every time we talk about barbecue here everyone always tells us to go to Dinosaur's. It's quite a trek, all the way in Harlem, but it was definitely worth it. We still talk about how good it was. Christopher loved it too. Our little vegetarian baby ate every kind of meat we gave him!

Last week Lisa was here before her Tibet trip. It was great seeing her. She knew all of the fun games that cracked Christopher up. We all went to the history museum together.

Here are Conan, Christopher, and the bear. Grrrr...

Christopher also had his first trip to the pool. His friend, Delaney (and her mom) invited us to their summer home. It was gorgeous. The LG loved the pool! He splashed around and had a great time. He almost looks like he's glowing he has so much sunscreen on in this picture.

Here are all the kiddos chatting after the pool time.

I promise I'll be better at keeping up in August!

Cowboy Birthday Party!

We had so much fun at Christopher's 1st birthday party. It was cowboy themed in honor of his Texas roots. I don't think the LG knew quite what to expect. His little friends just kept showing up at the door. He kept leaving the room and we had to remind him the party was for him :-). Here he is in the adorable cowboy shirt that Rachel made him. How cute is it! Rachel does it all, but I didn't realize she was a seamstress also!

We got cowboy hats and bandanas for all of the kids. None of them were big fans. I took this picture before he realized it was on.

Rachel also made us this matching towel. Perfect! (Don't be too impressed by me for those cookies- my neighbor Jo made them for us).

Here's the LG hanging with Grandpa. He let him play with his favorite toy- a water bottle. Unfortunately we had to do a little outfit change. (Do you other Mamas have to change your kiddos clothes about ten times a day also?)

Christopher's girlfriends- Cori with Caitlin and Jessica with Grace. They are precious!

Our friends Michelle and Rob with their son Max. Michelle's from Texas too. I could tell Max was really feeling the cowboy theme.

Silvia and Brian with precious Madeline. How cute is she?

Oliver. His family goes to church with us. He and Christopher are best buds.

Family shot.

Here's the amazing train cake that Conan made. The Crum family has a tradition of making a train cake for first birthdays. Conan's Grandpa has made countless cakes for all of his grandkids and so Conan emulated one for Christopher. It turned out great. I think Conan could go into business if he ever gets tired of Wall Street.

Christopher all cowboyed up. I can't believe he wasn't happier to be dressed up.

The three of us.

Singing. I love the look on his face- You're not going to try to get me to eat cake again are you?

Oh- it's chocolate, that I can do.

Christopher with the giant horse.

Here he is hanging with Grammie after his big day.

We all had so much fun at Christopher's party. Thanks to everyone who helped to make our Little Guy's day so special!

Drumroll

I have lots of pictures of the LG's cowboy birthday to post, but right now we have bigger news... Christopher's a walker! He's been taking one step at a time since before his birthday. On 6/25 he did 5 steps in a row, and then on 6/29 he did 12 steps. He's been doing little bits of walking with lots of encouragement until the 4th of July. We had our neighbor, Jo, over for dinner and he was everywhere. I think he was showing off for her. Here's a few pics I got of him yesterday night before bed. He's going to be even harder to capture for a picture now!

Yes, he's wearing Christmas pajamas and carrying Dad's slipper-  Don't ask.
Got Dad's watch.
Few more steps to the couch.

This was the best I could get with Jo. Once he figured out the walking he was on the move!
